The Best Total War: Warhammer 3 DLCs

The Best Total War: Warhammer 3 DLCs
Updated:
01 Dec 2023

The base game already has enough content as it is, but if you do want more, then you should be looking into the DLCs. There are a total of 5 DLCs for this game, and more are on the way as the game updates. Along with these DLCs, there are also free updates for players who don’t want to spend money.

Such as a faction rework, new mechanics, and so on. The DLCs that the game currently offers introduce new factions, new mechanics, new lords, and new starting positions. In this article, I’ll review every DLC that the game provides and rank them based on how good they are. So with that, let’s get into the article!

5. Blood For The Blood God III (OK)

THE RIVERS SHALL RUN RED!

Honestly, this should have been in the base game and shouldn’t be a DLC. The only reason why it’s DLC is so the developers can get a lighter rating. It’s a must-have DLC if you’re a Warhammer fan because what kind of Warhammer game is without blood?

Alongside the blood, this DLC adds dismemberment, and some units are able to continue fighting while dismembered, bodies exploding into a million pieces, changes to the UI, and random events that can generate greater carnage in battle. The good thing about this DLC is that it costs 3.49$ and is relatively cheap.

Blood For The Blood God III Key Features:

  • Adds blood and gore to the game.
  • Enemies can explode into millions of pieces.
  • Random events can happen so that they generate greater carnage.
  • Adds dismemberment to units.
  • Zombies and skeletons will continue fighting while dismembered.

Blood For The Blood God III Rating: 5/10

4. Shadows of Change (OK)

I fear no demon!

This DLC adds three new lords, new units, and new campaign mechanics. The three legendary lords are separated into three factions, which are Tzeentch, Grand Cathay, and Kislev. From scheming and planning battles with the Changeling to the grand court and global strategies with Yuan Bo to the mighty hexes of Mother Ostankya.

Alongside that, all of these legendary lords have new units that they can recruit. If you’re someone who loves playing these factions, then you should consider getting the DLC, as the new content that it brings is quite exciting and will keep you occupied for hours on end. The only downside is the price point, which is 24.99$.

Shadows of Change Key Features:

  • 3 new legendary lords.
  • New faction mechanics for each legendary lord.
  • With the Changeling you can control and scheme your way to victory.
  • Conjuring powerful magic and hexes with Mother Ostankaya.
  • Establishing and executing global strategies on a global level.
  • New units that are highly detailed and unique, especially the huge units.

Shadows of Change Rating: 6/10

3. Champions of Chaos (Good)

I will ride into battle and demolish the army myself!

Champions of Chaos introduces four new legendary lords that are tied to the four different Chaos Gods. You can set off to dominate the world as Valkia, the champion of Khorne, Festus, the champion of Nurgle, Azazel, the champion of Slaanesh, or Vilitch, the champion of Tzeentch. Each lord starts in a different location on the map, and some starts are harder than others.

Each legendary lord has a chaos-themed mechanic tied to them so that they don’t feel the same while playing. Additionally, there are over 50 new units added to the game that these lords can recruit. These legendary lords are certainly more exciting and intriguing than in the Shadows of Change DLC and have a better design tied to them.

Champions of Chaos Key Features:

  • Over 50 new units were added to the game.
  • Each legendary lord is tied to a different Chaos God.
  • Each legendary lord starts in a different part of the map.
  • Unique chaos-themed mechanics were added to this DLC.

Champions of Chaos Rating: 7.5/10

2. Ogre Kingdoms (Excellent)

The highest contractor gets us.

The first ever DLC released for this game was the Ogre Kingdoms. This DLC adds a whole new faction to the game, and those are the ogres. These guys were teased in Total War: Warhammer 2, and now in the third game, they are a full-fledged faction with their campaign mechanics. The ogres aren’t on the side of humans or chaos; they are neutral in that war.

The faction introduces two new legendary lords, over 20 unique units, and a mechanic where you need to harvest meat from battles to keep those big empty bellies full. You can also set up camps in enemy territories so you can recruit your units or replenish them after a battle. The units are fun to use in battle, are tanky, and have a wide variety. Also, the price isn’t steep; it's only 11.99$.

Ogre Kingdoms Key Features:

  • A whole new faction.
  • Mercenary campaign mechanic.
  • You have to harvest meat from battles to feed your armies.
  • You can build camps in enemy territory to replenish or recruit units.
  • 20 new units.

Ogre Kingdoms Rating: 8/10

1. Forge of The Chaos Dwarfs (The Best)

It’s time to forge lads.

Let me introduce you to the most evil faction in the game, aka the Chaos Dwarfs. This faction comes with three new legendary lords with a unique campaign mechanic, and their campaign does not cross over into the Ursun one. Your main concern is to conquer the known world, and you’ll do that by obtaining the Blood of Hashut.

You’ll have to obtain certain dwarf relics to construct a drill that will go to the center of the earth so you can obtain that blood. Additionally, they get some great units and some huge mecha dinosaurs that destroy everything in their path and are pretty much the most fun faction out there right now. The only issue is the steep price of 24.99$.

Forge of The Chaos Dwarfs Key Features:

  • A campaign that doesn’t interfere with the Ursun one.
  • Three legendary lords.
  • Faction mechanics that keep you wanting to play more.
  • Collecting relics to build a drill to get to the core of the earth.
  • New units, which include huge mortars and huge mecha dinosaurs.

Forge of The Chaos Dwarfs Rating: 9.5/10
