  • Loyal fans of the series will recognize the iconic turnip as the standard starter crop, but that’s not the only vegetable available to players. Even if you did have the desire to stay loyal to one crop, each can only be grown in one season, so it is in your best interest to learn about all of them.
  • You may ask, “What makes a crop “the best” to plant for each season?” Well, my dear farmers, there’s more to consider than just the profit. There’s also the growth rate, and how much the seeds cost to begin with. Normally this would require some math in order to calculate, but this guide will break it down for you.
  • Top 3 Spring Crops

1. Cucumbers

-While cucumbers take 10 in-game days to grow, they are one of the few that you can reharvest without having to buy new seeds. Every 5 days after the initial ten, you’ll have another harvest of the bright green crop to enjoy.

-Growing cucumbers can earn you a nifty little easter egg! To the left of the Goddess Pond, there’s a set of stairs leading to a lake in the next area. Throw one cucumber into the water, and a quiet Kappa will take it. Repeat this for ten in-game days, and you will be rewarded with a special gift.

-Each bag of cucumber seeds is a bit costly at 200G, the minimum of 60G you’ll earn for each selling cucumber will quickly make buying the seeds worth it.

2. Potatoes

-This fun root crop’s seeds are placed near the top of the General Store’s inventory list, making it easy to see that they cost only slightly more than Turnip seeds.

-Their growth time is 8 days, making it a midpoint of the spring crops in terms of both price and growth rate.

-A potato ready to be harvested likes to hide from you--the tuber itself will be covered by a bundle of little white flowers. A very nice visual for a crop, but don’t be fooled!

3. Turnips

-Yes, the famous turnip is in the top 3! This is the “safe” Spring crop to grow, with each turnip being ready to pick in just 5 days.

-You can earn a minimum 60G per turnip, the same as a cucumber. The difference is that turnip seeds will not regrow automatically. Luckily, buying them in bulk won’t cost much gold.

-Eating your crops raw will refill your stamina by a small amount, great for if you’re fighting the farmerly urge to fall into the dirt. With how quickly they grow, turnips are a great choice for emergency fuel.

Summer Crops

1. Tomatoes

-Tomatoes are the least profitable of the summer crops, but have a fast regrowth rate of 3 days. If you plant early in the summer, you’ll often have a patch to harvest all summer long.

-Tomatoes restore more stamina than the average crop! It’s a small one point difference, but with one many tomatoes you can grow in just one summer, that one point will prove very useful as emergency food!

-The tomato is one of the easiest crops to spot when it is time to pick them--the bright red color easily stands out among the greens and browns of the rest of your field.

2. Corn

-Stalks of corn are the cash crop of the summer, topping onions by a 5G difference minimum. The difference may seem small, but with corn being a crop that regrows, the profits quickly add up.

-It takes about half a season for your first harvest of corn to mature, but the short regrowth rate easily makes up for the time you spend farming.

-Corn is a key ingredient in a few simple dishes; perfect if you want a simple snack for your farmer to restore some stamina.

3. Onions

-If you fancy yourself a chef as well as a farmer, tomatoes and onions will be your best friend! Over 30 in-game recipes call for one or both of these.

-Onions sell for a nifty 80G apiece minimum, which is a good deal for a crop that doesn’t regrow.

-A bag of Onion seeds costs only 150G each, making them the least costly summer crop!

Fall Crops

1. Eggplants

-It is VERY easy to tell when your eggplants are ready to harvest, being large with a rich purple color. No guessing games here!

-Like the Tomato, they regrow quickly. If you focus on tomatoes in the summer and eggplants in the fall, the middle seasons can be your most profitable ones.

-Winter is far too cold to grow any crops, so you’ll lose that source of gold during the cold season. Eggplants are a savvy choice for your snowy day fund!

2. Spinach

-Spinach seeds take a bit of work to unlock (you first have to sell 100 eggplants, carrots, and yams), creating a fun challenge for vegetable devotees.

-Once you’ve unlocked the leafy green, you can buy the seeds for 200G and sell each ripe spinach for a minimum of 110G, making them one of the most profitable fall crops.

-Spinaches are the fastest growing fall crop, taking just 6 days to mature.

3. Carrots

-Carrots are another crop that are ideal for eating for a bit of extra stamina (no, you sadly can’t feed carrots to your rabbits). But that just leaves more for you, right?

-Of the 3 easiest fall crops to find and buy, carrots sell for the most once grown, starting at 120G per carrot.

-One of the things that makes this remake special from the original Friends of Mineral Town is the addition of two new crops for Fall: Adzuki Beans and Chili Peppers. These are both crops that regrow, and carrots are a good crop to grow alongside them if you want a patch to switch out with different veggies.

At the end of the day, there is no right or wrong way to farm in any Story of Seasons game. The list above is meant to give you the most bang for your buck, and you can fill your field with whatever veggies your gamer heart desires. Happy planting!

What is Lorem Ipsum?Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it?It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).Where does it come from?Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.Where can I get some? There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.
