Star Wars : KOTOR ( Knights of the old Republic ) brings a bunch of variety when it comes to the story and what you can do on each planet. Kotor has 6 planets for players to explore overall, each one having different side quests or lore to be discovered.

The planets are Taris, Danitooine, Korriban, Maanan, Tatooine and Kashyyyk. The order in which you play actually has some impact on the story but won't stop you from getting past it. For example, going to Korriban last makes sense if you follow what the game tells you because of how it's laid out.

Players can actually start at any planet that they wish after they get off Dantooine. Each planet gives its own benefits to your character. Example if you want to get Jollee before you go to Maanan.

Over the weekend I had the time to play KOTOR and today I'm going to give you a guide on the best planet order and why you should choose it.

#1.  Kashyyyk ( First Planet )

The first planet on this list is Kashyyk. Home of the wookies this place is nothing to laugh at. With trees going for miles and forest all around this planet is a bit tricky to get used to and the constant noise of the wild will make you do a side quest or turn your settings down.

Reason players should pick this planet

  • You get Jollee early on. ( More jedi early is always good )
  • You get a legendary sword at the end ( the name of the sword is a easter egg to hardcore fans )
  • This is the easiest planet to get a star map ( In my opinion )
  • You can get off the planet and finish every quest in reasonable time ( about 1 hour or less depending if your the player who looks for everything )

#2. Maanan ( Second Planet )

The water planet that's neutral to the republic and sith for one main reason! Koto. Maanans surface is covered with sparkling seas and white pearly-white cites. Most of the quests deal with detective work and court cases.

Reason players should pick this planet second

  • Has a follow up quest for Jollee ( if you travel to the planet before you met him the quest won't start with his dialogue )
  • you get to learn about the two factions and see their differences first hand. ( Just go to the planet and see no spoilers )
  • There's a secret side quest that gives you a bunch of good gear ( only if you play darkside you cant finish the quest if you do lightside )
  • This won't ruin who the story plays out. In fact it adds more character to the player and his/her companions with the dialogue that takes place, if you swap people out every once and a while.

#3. Tatoonie ( Third Planet )

Third up is Tatoonie! The desert wasteland that was once an advanced civilization for what are now called the Tusken raiders and Jawas this land was destroyed by the Rakatans during a war ages before this game takes place, back when the infinite empire was still in control.

Reason Players Should Pick This Planet Third

  • This is one of the more challenging maps making players not only fight sith, but Tusken Raiders as well. ( don't take the Tuskens lightly heavy armor and high CON is needed for that )
  • This map gives you one of the best droids in the game HK-47, an assassin droid who's skilled in over 1 thousand languages. ( Hint: using HK’s language skill is very helpful for aliens who don't speak basic! )
  • This Planet has swoop races which allow players to gain credits late game for med packs or weapons they may want.

#4. Korrbian ( Forth/Last Planet )

The original planet for the sith. Home to a bunch of original sith lords like Tulak Hord and one of the places the sith academy operated at. This planet has the player going through challenges to prove if you have what it takes to be a sith.

Reason Players Should Pick This Planet Last

  • This is the most challenging planet. playing it earlier will lead to multiple restarts
  • players won't be equipped properly to handle duels the quests bring.
  • There are no companions to get from this planet. It offers history into the sith and why they do what they do. ( not as much as KOTOR 2 )
  • There is a quest for Carth here. You have the chance to get his son and turn him. ( He can not be added to your group )

In conclusion, the order I listed in this guide is in my opinion the best planet order. Going to these planets gives you a new and different experience to the game if you did the order how the game wants on your first playthrough. This is by far the most effective way to get the most out of KOTOR and be ready late game for the boss fights.
