This is certainly…fashion

Now, if we were talking about Gold Saucer money and not the usual in-game currency, the Fashion Report is a solid way to earn some MGP (Manderville Gold Saucer Points). This weekly event involves dressing up according to the theme in order to earn a sizable chunk of coin. There are people out there who figure out and share the exact dyes or gear pieces needed for each theme, which is where gil comes into play.

You can also take advantage of the guides by taking up your skills as a crafter to make these bits yourself to sell on the marketboard via your retainers. Especially, if you make sure to keep level or minorly undercut the current prices, and list the dye pots specifically in quantities needed for the report, you’ll be cashing out quickly from several fashion conscious customers.

The first is hunting, in which you can send them out for an hour to bring back specific supplies, which is mostly useful if you’re seeking out a particular item to sell or use for crafting. The second, and longest at 18 hours, are field explorations in which they will always bring back a sack of gil and a handful of one material. These are the most profitable and reliant gil gainers; I recommend making sure to send your retainers out on these just before logging off for the night so you can wake up to the sweet rewards. The third and most interesting are the quick explorations. Only an hour long as well, you send your retainers out and they come back with a random item. Now, this could be something as mundane as an elemental crystal or low level piece of gear, but it could also be a rare minion or even the elusive venture coffers, which usually house uncommon dye pots that sell for a great amount.

What're ya sellin'?

This method is more than just a good way to make gil, but a recommended staple of your gameplay experience. Available after completing the level 17 main story quest, you need only speak to the Retainer Vocate who is located in the market of the hub cities. You can design your retainer, assign them a job and begin their service. Speaking of, though they can both store and sell your things, the key service they offer that will contribute to gil gain are the retainer ventures. Essentially, you can send your retainer off on one of three different adventures. All of these provide higher quality rewards the higher they also level.

Gathering/Crafting

Trade in the monotony for some botany

Much like retainers, if you’re willing to pick up the non-combat trades, they’ll become one of your most reliable sources. There’s not much to talk about the way it works itself; if you pick up one of these classes you’ll be taught the trade along the way. Where the profit comes in is knowing how to best utilise your skills. Since most materials you can gather or craft are eligible to sell on the marketboard, from there it’s all about keeping track of what’s trending on the marketboard and selling accordingly.

In regards to gathering, commonly or popularly used ingredients for crafters may be what you seek. Get bulks going for reasonable prices, or have select bundles that provide the exact amount needed for specific crafting items.

In regards to crafting, the money is usually in quality gear, and quality meals. No matter where you are in the story, aiming to provide for those seeking the best upgrades for whatever purposes will snag you a decent income.

Deep Dungeons

Rogue in a roguelike, how fitting

Much like many roguelike dungeons, these deep dungeons are a challenging, high risk endeavour with even higher reward if you can brave the danger. Playable solo, or in parties of four, you aren’t limited in job roles (aside from limited jobs such as Blue Mage), starting a low level but earning your way up the ladder the more enemies you defeat. There are three different deep dungeons; Palace of the Dead, Heaven-On-High and Eureka Orthos. The first, and most popular of the three hosts up to 200 floors, while the latter two have up to 100.

As one might expect, the higher you make it, the more promising and therefore valuable the rewards. This becomes especially true for the latter half of the floors in each one. The difficulty on these floors specifically is notable to the point of not being viable for matchmaking parties, only premade or solo occupants. However, aided by the aetherpool system, the ability to save your progress and a hell of a lot of determination, you’ll find yourself climbing the floors with ease and reaping rewards rare enough to be worth great amounts to those who don’t wish to grind for them.

Treasure Hunt

I think I’ve been reading this upside down

Timeworn maps; the name speaks for itself. Old looking maps in bottles that can be gathered or bought, deciphering them will pop up with a tiny, cropped part of a named location, dotted with an X. The fun then continues with figuring out where to go, having a look around for a coffer with that sweet treasure…

But wait!

Before you even get that far you’ll be accosted by beasts you must defeat. And even then, if you’ve been lucky enough then after your initial haul, a portal may appear that will lead you into a special dungeon. Not only can you receive straight gil, the materials these coffers drop are numerous. Especially if you grind low level maps alone, you’ll sweep up every last piece which can then be thrown up on the marketboard. Rinse, repeat, your inventory will have stock replacements for a while. There is one requisite before you can go on the hunt, but it’s a simple, level 36 unlock quest that you can start by talking to H'loonh in Eastern La Noscea.

       How it works:

Grand Company Seals

Captain Damage, reporting for duty

A noble and versatile way to gain access to a grand sum of materials. What’s so very useful about this form of currency is how naturally you’ll acquire it along your journey. They’re acquired in such a mass amount of ways, that you’re more than likely to end up with some from something or other. Roulettes, FATEs (in areas prior to Shadowbringers), trading in gear pieces and so on, this is an easy process. But how does this translate into gil?

Grand Company Seals can be spent by talking to the Quartermasters at each grand company base. The greater your rank, the more you’re able to access. If you’re willing to put in the work, then these are some of the items I recommend buying with seals to sell off later.

Glamour prisms, at Chief Sergeant level, are an incredibly popular item and in constant demand as players continuously strive to reach the peaks of their glams. At Second Lieutenant, you’ll have access to some of the better quality, more useful components that will usually fetch a swift price from crafters. Lastly, if you make it all the way to the top rank of Captain, there are the material containers. Coming in two versions, they contain a random minion or mount from either the Heavensward or Stormblood expansions. Seeing as some can be quite rare, or reliant on luck based drops, you’ll usually find a buyer who wishes to skip the process to acquire their fun little friend. These containers may be a little pricey, but with an efficient seal grinding process it pays for itself.

       How it works:

     [step one and so on]

Bicolor Gemstones

Like seals, but pride edition

The upgrade to FATE rewards, these gorgeous little currency stones serve a similar purpose to grand company seals for areas introduced in Shadowbringers and beyond. Much like a lot of these methods, this is once again a system that provides items of greater worth the more you work for it. They’re specifically from the shared FATE system, in which the number of fates completed is tracked by area. Each rank achieved unlocks more items available for purchase at gemstone traders in select areas. Aside from personally useful items such as riding maps, or collectables like the triple triad cards, the most useful in terms of gil gain will be the unique items.

Orchestrion rolls, materia relevant to the item level of that area, and especially the material drops from creatures that inhabit that land. All of these are able to be sold, and appeal to the different markets of buyers. Since the gemstones themselves can be spent at any trader, not just in the area they were earned, this allows you to reap the riches wherever is best for you, then popping over to spend wherever is most needed.

Island Sanctuary

My kingdom for a mount!

This delightful addition to the game, introduced during the post-Endwalker patches, is something of Final Fantasy 14’s take on the farming simulator. Essentially gifted your own little island, it’s up to you to renovate it into your little corner of paradise, with the assistance of a few mammets and some special guests. Notably, though you start with making a base trading structure, you then move on to gardens, animal pens, granaries and workshops that all work in a harmonious production line. Set up a schedule of items to be produced, ship them out and get paid in the island’s currency. If you’re particularly business savvy you can pay attention to what’s currently trending for maximum profit.

Spending the basic earnings of cowries can net you plenty of top tier materia (for that point of the game) to entice gatherers and crafters, which are a particularly profitable investment as they are. However, in later patches the introduction of the Felicitous Favours also added new rewards. In particular, they can be traded for Sanctuary Materiel Containers. Similar to the material containers of the grand companies, these loot boxes offer more than just minions and rare mounts. They also drop many gil-worthy items ranging from uncommon crafting components, high quality dye pots, housing furnishings and much more. It’s a fun source of stock for your retainers shop.

Something fishy is going on here

It should be no surprise that such a story rich game like Final Fantasy attracts players that are the type to delve deep into their characters, and their little slice of the world. The work required here to set up such an entrepreneurial endeavour is not unlike setting up a business. You’ll need the initial investment gil, and ideally a willing team of volunteers, whether that be friends or free company members. That, and of course a premise. All sorts of venue attractions exist across the servers, from nightclubs, cafes, shops, casinos and even aquariums!

The gil making aspect varies depending on your venue type, but it always comes from the core being the roleplay. Players indulge in the opportunity to take their characters out and experience these places like they were just another part of the game, where they can meet people, indulge in activities or simply have a nice place to sit their character down while they’re AFK. Service based venues will usually have their own menus of specialty drinks and meals, shops and entertainment attractions will have items for display that are available for sale via trade, casinos take advantage of games like triple triad to make gil off of betting, and so forth. If you have the time and are looking for a side hustle, I recommend looking further into the culture of roleplay venues.

Character Creation Bonuses

H-how did I get here!?

Regardless of whether you’re a new player or not, this is still a scheme you can take full advantage of in the right way. Due to the large influx of new players to the game during the leadup to the latest expansion, Square Enix implemented a few schemes to aid the inevitable congestion issues. Namely, the most relevant of these being the incentives for creating new, or moving old, characters to preferred worlds. These are servers which may be newly introduced or simply of low population.

For transferring, the only significant benefit is that you’ll be given full reimbursements for prior housing costs, allowing you to jump straight back into the hunt for a new lot. New character creation, however, is where the real coin comes in. After fulfilling some requirements, of which there’s only a couple but you can check out the terms and conditions here, you’ll be granted 1 million gil. As a new player, this is a fantastic way to start your journey without being bogged down by the grind; treat yourself to a fresh set of gear, maybe some minions, dye pots, whatever will make your playtime that much more special. If you’re a veteran player though, not to worry, as you could still take advantage. All you’ll need is a trustworthy friend, and a free space in a preferred world. Make your character, fulfil the requirements, achieve your gil, trade gil to said friend who can then trade it back to your main account, profit!

    How it works:

     [step one and so on]

Also, a quick PSA for those who may not be aware as it is relevant, please avoid and report any Real Money Trading (RMT). This practice involves the buying and selling of in-game items and currency for real life currency. You may see people spamming chats, selling gil in exchange for real money. These are not only prohibited by the game, it’s scummy practice that can break the in-game economy, and depending on how it’s done there can be a risk of viruses and such.

I recommend reading This FAQ for more information, but otherwise if you can please report it when you see it. It’s not worth the risk and as we’ve evidenced above, there’s plenty of legal ways to get yourself golden with gil!

What is Lorem Ipsum?Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it?It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
