If You Like Call of Duty, Try These Games Out

If you have not heard of Call of Duty, then where have you been for the past eight years? Call of duty is by far the most successful first person shooter franchise of all time. We are talking about 11 games so far with a 12th on the way.

As fun as playing COD for 12 hours is, sometimes you just want to switch it up. These games give you something new and exciting.

10. Titanfall

These Titans will save you

What happens when the creators of call of duty go off and make their own game? Simple. We get Titanfall. Titanfall has no single player campaign. Everything is online Multiplayer. There is a campaign, but honestly they do not give you enough info to know the game's story. You play as either the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) or the Militia in different war torn colonies.

What Titanfall lacks in single player story driven campaigns, they make up for it with their fast pace high energy battles. You got double jumping and wall running. You got mecha robots to call and help you. You got a small but good balance weapons class. This is Titanfall.

9. Crysis 3

Aim small miss small

There is a saying with Gaming PC’s. If your PC can run Crysis 3 on 1080p with ultra or high settings, then you got a good gaming PC. Do not let the game’s demanding nature get to you, this game is awesome. If you have not played the first or second crisis games I highly recommend that you do because this game is a continuation of the first two games. You once again play as Prophet from Crysis 2. After Crisis 2 you find that Crisis 3 takes place 24 years later in a I Am Legend style New York.

Crysis 3 can be played in different ways You can be stealthy or all out guns blazing style. The added hacking ability in Crysis 3 is useful. You can hack the turrets to kill the enemies. You can hack doors. Its a good addition

The game itself shows sequels can be perfectly tied together to create a story. If you enjoy the story from of call of duty with its fast paced multiplayer action, then you will like Crysis three and the Crysis series.

8. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Um... I will just leave you, guys alone

The Borderlands franchise is not your normal first person shooters and in a way not call of duty. Borderlands is what happens if call of duty adds RPG to their game. Borderlands The Pre-Sequel is a game that you need to play. You play as one of four playable characters on a mission to take back a space station. I cannot say more because in reality if you have not played the first two games you are not going to understand what I am talking about.

The game features one of the best class systems in any First person shooter. Sometimes I wish call of duty or battlefield had systems like this. You can tell the developers tried to make this game as unique as possible but still keeping it borderlands. You got low gravity places, freeze guns (freeze ray anyone), and Oxygen tanks. This game is not for everyone but still deserves a chance. If you like the Call of Duty story which spans through out the series then you will enjoy this game.

7. Warface

Shields cannot save you

The Creators of Crysis wanted to make a more Call of Duty style first person shooter. Warface is a free to play first person shooter. Yes it’s free to play. You can download the game and enjoy the whole game without paying a single dollar. You take control of a soldier fighting the evil corporation’s army. The story is simple and doesn’t progress but the multiplayer is where this game shines.

You get four classes; Rifleman, Sniper, Medic, and Engineer. Now what I notice from playing this game is that the four classes are very different. Depending on your play style, you might use a class more often: The rifleman class is very balanced, the medic class is for close quarters support and saving your teammate, the sniper is for taking out the enemies from afar, and the engineer class is for fast close quarters.

The game is the closest to call of duty in the multiplayer. You get fast paced action. Boards are balanced but needs more work. If you like the fast pace multiplayer of Call of Duty then you will enjoy this game.

6. Blacklight: Retribution

We own the night

I played this game for a day The game is pretty straightforward. Make your solider, customize your weapon if you got the cash, then go out there and show the enemy what you got. There is no single player story, no complex character development, just strait up point and shoot. They took the multiplayer of Call of Duty and made it their own. The game is free to play so you can download the full game and play it without spending a dime.

The game itself is really fast paced. I was focused on not getting shot and backing up my team. To master this game you have to learn the game's feature. These features are really good and will save you from certain death. It is these little details that help the game stand out and not feel like a Call of Duty clone.

5. Tribes Ascend

Stop jumping so i can shoot you

I played this game before Call of Duty Advanced Warfare came out. While I was playing it, I thought I was playing Halo. I know people say Destiny is the hybrid between Call of Duty and Halo, but I say this game Tribes Ascend is a true Hybrid of Call of Duty and Halo. The same as the last two on this list, this game is free to play.

Tribes Ascend is just pure fun to play. The class loadout are simple and easy to use and create. The movements are hard to get used to but once you do you will be double jumping and sliding your way to victory. You got vehicles, decent size maps, a big list of items to make your character you, and an overall good fun gaming experience. A must play for any First Person Shooter fan.

4. Team Fortress 2

I lost my gun so i got this

I had to put this game on the list. The only thing this game has in common with call of duty is the fact they are both first person shooters. Call of duty is a serious game with a serious tone and a serious story. Team Fortress 2 is just funny. It’s Call of Duty with humor. The only people who will not enjoy this game is people who do not have a funny bone or do not like shooting games. The game revolves around two teams, Reliable Excavation & Demolition (RED) and Builders League United (BLU). You choose one of nine classes and play. Everything is simplified so you spend less time on deciding what class to pick and more time playing the game.

Each class is very different and you can adapt your Call of Duty style to this game. There are different game modes to choose from.Ther classics from Call of duty are there. Once you start playing this game you will not be able to get off it. Oh and did I mention it’s free to play.

3. Planetside 2

Double the fire power

Takes Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, mash them together, you will probably get this game or a weird Frankenstein monster game. You choose from three factions and fight to control an entire planet. This game is Big and the fighting can get crazy and confusing. The tutorial level doesn’t prepare you enough for the battle that lies ahead. I am going to give you an example of how big this game can get. PlanetSide 2 holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest first-person shooter battle with 1158 players in a single battle. Imagine a game with 1158 people in it. Now that is a war.

This game takes Call of Duty class setup and makes it simple for you. Remember you have a whole planet to explore and conquer so choosing the right class is very important. Your strategy in Call of Duty might or might not work because of the size of the game’s world. The game is free to play, a whole planet to fight on, what more do you want?

2. Battlefield 4

Fire wont stop us!

Time and time again I have a hard time choosing between the new Call of Duty and the new battlefield game. I cannot decide and I buy both of them. I have never seen a franchise that takes on Call of Duty and win in certain spots. In the campaign you play as Sergeant Recker, a Soldier that was given the leadership role after your commander dies. The story is deep and complex. Dealing with governments, war, conspiracy and deception.  As Recker, you hold the fates of your fellow officers in your hand and have to make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good.

The Campaign is better than the earlier titles but this game like Call of Duty excels in multiplayer. This is where battlefield takes the fight to Call of Duty. While other first person shooters try to compete head to head with Call of Duty, Battlefield expands on the traditional point and shoot that call of duty is famous for and gives you a full war experience. You get planes, cars, boats, helicopters. You can have the Call of Duty like experience, or a full war battlefield experience. This game is like Call of Duty and it’s not. It depends on the style you play.

1. Battlefield Hardline

I am the boss

Battlefield hardline brings a new side in warfare we have not seen in Call of Duty. The war on crime. I am sure we have played cops versus robbers as a kid, but I bet you never played it like this. In the campaign you play as Detective Nick Mendoza. You investigate the drug war that has plagued the city of Miami. You notice throughout the game that the black and white of the law is not so black and white anymore. The law you swore to uphold is being used to help the drug trade. The Campaign feels like an episode of Miami Vice or CSI. The campaign adds stealth to spice things up that does come in handy if you do not want to shoot up the place.

Multiplayer takes a very left curve. They switched things up to give a cops versus robbers feel. Everything has been changed to stick with the theme. The class setup feels familiar but is tailored for this game. Even the game modes are not the normal Battlefield Call of duty style. This game is a must play if you want a change of pace. Fans of Call of Duty and battlefield will find it hard to get used to the changes but love the new experience the game brings.
