The first thing for noobs to know about Sims 4 mods is that they are files you install to change the mechanics of a game.  You add mods to the basic game, tweaking it to turn it into the perfect game for you. There are zillions of Sims 4 mods out there and our mission today is to introduce you to some of the best (well, we think so, but the trophy for ultimate Sims 4 mod is still up for grabs).

There are all kinds of Sims 4 mods.  A mod could range from a basic fix for a problem like not having the right kind of clothing for your Sim, to mods that totally change big parts of the game.  For instance, the Improved Lighting mod changes the way the entire game looks. There are several big sites where mods are stored, one of the biggest being modthesims.

Some things to be aware of before installing mods is that they directly affect the game program files.  Read the install instructions and documentation for the mod before installing it because if it’s not installed correctly it could crash your game.  Saying that, mods are an awesome part of Sims 4; using them will let you make your own fully customised game.

So what are the 10 best Sims 4 mods?

1. Stuff Breaks Far Less Easily

Although it can sometimes be entertaining to take your Sim right from teen burger flipper all the way to corporate big shot, some aspects of Sim life are a lot more mundane.  If you install this mod, you can reduce the amount of boring household tasks necessary by limiting the ability for objects in your house to break.  The default likelihood of breakage is 67%, but this mod reduces it to somewhere between 5 and 30%.  With this mod, your Sim can spend more time on the fun stuff like flirting or fine art.

2. Daily Save

Save yourself the pain of loosing a whole day's worth of gameplay if your computer crashes. This mod makes the game save automatically at a certain time or multiple times every (Sim) day.

3. Menu Enabler

Ever needed to go through and look at all your Sims, but the menu window gets closed every time you switch?  I know, annoying!! The Menu Enabler is a great fix for this frustrating aspect of the Sims.  This mod lets you keep the menu open, letting you see the Sims menu options while they’re at work or check on work progress, flicking between characters easily.

4. Teen Careers for All Ages

This mod removes career restrictions so adults can have part time jobs. The jobs that are teens-only in the regular Sims 4 are Barista, Baby Sitter, Fast Food, Manual Labor, and Retail.  In this mod, your adult Sim can make extra money by having a part time job, or spend extra time on partying!

5. Modular Windowset

No more problems finding the right window for your wall space!  This mod lets you have the stylish windows you want.  These windows take up only one tile space each, and you can lay them one by one against each other for a great modern look.

6. No Censor

Slightly naughty!  This mod removes the mosaic blur around your Sims sensitive bits when they’re showering, breastfeeding or going to the toilet.  Use this mod to go au naturel!

7. Expanded Facial Slider

You can make your characters just a little bit more extreme and interesting using this mode.  It’s useful if you want to increase the size of the nose, or any part of the face, more than what the regular Sims 4 sliders allow you to do.

8. Handyman and Gardener NPCs

Are you tired of gardening? Got other important things to do with your time? Does it cost too much to replace your tired out stuff?   This mod will be perfect for you. It gives you two NPCs (Non Playable Characters) in one and to get it, all you do is dial the number, hire the service and choose the option you’re looking for! Sims 2 had this mod and it is really great to see it available again.   With this mod, someone can come in and do handy stuff or organise your garden while you’re at work or don’t have enough time for some reason.

9. Move Objects

This mod is a basic one, but just so useful!  It takes away the usual movement restrictions on objects or Sim characters themselves.  It allows you to move or delete objects, put many objects on the same tile, or put things in locations where you can’t usually place them. Hang pictures where you want them to be! Make your kitchen on the lawn!

Improved Lighting

This mod has a big impact on the game, brightening up all objects and removing the slightly bluish hue that troubles some people.  It impacts both indoor and outdoor light, but indoor light in particular is much better – now your white indoor furniture will actually look white!

Use Sims 4 mods to create your perfect game now!
